The Sephardic emigration to the Ottoman Empire begins in a massive way with the expulsion of the Jewish population from the Iberian Peninsula by the Catholic Monarchs, in 1492. There they founded four large communities and thanks to their educational level and business skills, In general, they achieved a high standard of living and some even occupied high positions and conquered privileges. The Hispanic Hebrews maintained close relations with the Ottoman high spheres and it is known that some sultans included in their harem Sephardic women. Through the excursion we propose, you will get to know the most important sites of Sephardic history in Istanbul.

We started the tour through the Galata area, inhabited mostly by the Sephardic Jews at the beginning of the twentieth century and continue to the famous Neve Shalom and Ashkenazi synagogues. Then, we go to the Golden Horn, to attend the synagogue of Ahrida, fifteenth century.

You can also visit the Jewish Hospital of Or-Ahayim (if you want the kosher lunch served there, you need advance notice) and then visit the Jewish Museum in Istanbul, where there is an exhibition of the Sephardic Jews in Turkey (free lunch) ).

The last stop will be in the synagogue of Etz-Ahayim, in Ortaköy, the first point of disembarkation of the Sephardim, upon their arrival in the Ottoman Empire.

Important: Regarding the access to the institutions and synagogues we will try to arrange the corresponding interviews but we can not guarantee it since it depends on the decision of the authorities of these places. To apply for permits, full names and passport copies are required, with a 7-day advance notice.

Lately Turkey is fashionable. The traditional European destinations such as England, France or Italy, little by little begin to give prominence to other countries such as China, Jordan and Turkey, the only one in the world that sits between two continents.

Turkey is enigmatic, alive, ancient and modern. Here two of the most important civilizations of the history, Byzantine and Ottomans are mixed; which has created an enriching culture, palpable in unique buildings, monuments, spaces, places and cities.

Even though the capital of Turkey is Ankara, where the seat of government is located; The largest, most important and tourist city is Istanbul, a magical place, a charming city, crossed by the Bosphorus Strait, which divides it into two continents. In Istanbul itself, Europe ends and Asia begins. When traveling its streets we travel in time and at the same time we know a living, modern, modern city, where every corner has a meaning, a story, something to tell.

Do you dare to break the tax schemes of consumption and happiness and go on honeymoon to Turkey? This country will not disappoint you. It has all the potential and charisma to be a perfect destination for the love, passion and enjoyment of a newly married couple. Do not think twice and bet on the charm of a Turkey in love!

The Roman Hippodrome, the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, the German Fountain and the Column of Constantine, the Basilica of Saint Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, the Byzantine Basilica of Saint Savior in Chora,

PROGRAM:
The ancient Byzantium, today Istanbul, was founded by Greek settlers more than 500 years before Christ, on the banks of the Golden Horn, in the European part of the city. Since then, it was occupied and destroyed by Persians, Athenians, Spartans and Macedonians (Alexander the Great); until in the year 100 a.C. became part of the then Republic of Rome.

With the coming to power of Constantine the Great, Byzantium began to be called Constantinople – the city of Constantine – and became the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, also known as the Byzantine Empire, which lasted until 1453, when the city passed into to be the capital of a new conquering empire: the Ottoman.

Our tour begins at the Roman Hippodrome where we can admire the following wonders of the Byzantine Empire: the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, the German Fountain and the Column of Constantine. We will visit the first floor of the Basilica of Saint Sophia, a Byzantine temple from the 6th century, built by Justinian the Great and that is currently a museum that shows the most incredible Byzantine mosaics.

Then we will arrange to visit the Basilica Cistern, equipped with 300 columns inside, and which was used as a water deposit to facilitate the needs of the Imperial Palace.

After this visit lunch will be held in a restaurant located next to the Byzantine Church of Christ Pantocrator, the second largest in Istanbul, which was also converted into a mosque in the fifteenth century.
In the afternoon, we will make a guided visit to the Byzantine Basilica of San Salvador in Chora, where we will marvel at the magnificent frescoes that tell the story of Christianity.

We remind you that this exclusive route is a guided tour by our qualified professionals, in which it has a wide range of luxury vehicles for private transportation around the city, and we assure you that the restaurants in which you will delight culinary are a selection of the most outstanding of Istanbul.
