Would you like to explore the most vibrant and history-filled neighborhoods of Istanbul? This tour of Fener and Balat takes you through these historic districts, where diverse cultures such as Greeks, Armenians, Jews, and Bulgarians coexisted. With a Spanish-speaking guide, you will discover the rich multicultural heritage that has endured over the centuries.
Itinerary
The tour begins at the Fener bus stop, where we will meet at the indicated time. Our first stop will be the Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople, the official seat of the Patriarch of Constantinople and a key location for the worldwide Orthodox church. Then, we will admire the imposing Greek College of Fener, a symbol of the perseverance of the Greek community in the city.
We will continue to the Church of Saint Mary of the Mongols, the oldest active Orthodox church in Istanbul, before reaching the famous colorful stairs of Balat, a perfect spot for capturing memorable photographs. We will visit the House of Prince Dimitrie Cantemir, which reflects the multicultural history of the neighborhood, and the Panagia Paramythia Church, with its Orthodox remnants.
The tour continues through the charming colorful houses of Balat, with every corner offering unique photo opportunities. We will finish at the Sveti Stefan Church, also known as the Iron Church, a masterpiece of the Bulgarian community. After three hours, you will have explored the cultural diversity and fascinating history of these neighborhoods.
